SHORT TEMPERED IS MY WEAKNESS

Short tempered is a situation of human being. It arises after continuous disturbance for a very short period of time. It shows the nature of a particular human being. It is also related with aptly reaction to a particular action. Generally the intensity level of short temperedness varies from low to high. Higher intensity of short temperedness may cause harm to a particular event whereas low intensity of the same may cause better to a particular event. Short temperedness is a negative as well as a positive in nature of an individual but it depends on its intensity level. By professionally it is not advisable to go on higher intensity level of short temperedness whereas bit short tempered may advisable for successful of a particular assignment of an organisation. Some of people are not happy with short tempered person because they cannot intermingled to each other but on other hand there is some space and dignity that needs to be maintained professionally.

There are various cases where bit short tempered nature is very useful for on time delivery of result in an organisation. For example, I have assigned a duty to my team staffs that needs to complete within a stipulated time but if actually not completed then automatically sense of bit short temperedness arises and at the same time I also have to use my internal positive defence mechanism to calm down as well as adjust myself to teach the lesson in positive way to my team staffs so that they would also realize and must be done on next stipulated time. For health purpose, it is not always advisable of any intensity level of short temperedness as it may cause alteration in blood pressure, pulse rate and heart beat from the normal range. Higher level of short temperedness causes irritations, headache, high blood pressure, tension, hormonal imbalance etc. in human body.

I have been observed that meditation and practice of Yoga may very useful tools to reduce the nature of short temperedness. These tools are helping in acclimatizing our body according to adverse situation such as short temperedness. Better planning and positive thinking attitude may also minimize the intensity level of short temperedness.

Therefore, I would like to conclude that in general short temperedness is weakness of human being but it is also depend on its intensity level. Bit short temperedness may act as positive energy whereas strong short temperedness may act as negative energy of human beings. I put myself on bit short temperedness and cope up with my internal positive defence system.

Product Development in Seed Business Industry

Hello Friends!

I would like to share product development (PD) aspects in seed business industry. Actually most of Indian seeds company have separate division of PD or some company it comes under either R &D or Sales & Marketing. This is sometimes also referred as Technology Development particularly in Multi National company.

What is product development with respect to Seeds industry?

In a single sentence, "it will defined as the connecting link between R & D and Marketing".

Now, In general practice, Agriculture Extension Officers are responsible to disseminate new technology as well as testing the developed hybrids/varietals in the lab to the farmers field under system of State Agriculture Universities/Krishi Vigyan Kendra/Government programme. But do you know what is the success achieved till date. I think it is very less and if somewhere happening genuinely then it will be with slow pace.

For the accelerate the product advancement with high speed rate, it required a separate division as Product Development by national and multinational seeds business company. It will have to accelerate the pipeline hybrids/varietals with help of new technology and precise data analysis software for better quality and quicker decisions among test entries to be commercialized for the business. This includes activeness of R&D team, PD team and marketing team where everyone can plan to scale up the field testing and product development cycle to drive innovative products that are extremely superior to existing product portfolio after that we would certainly speed up the business.

This is the genuine way to put effort to develop a product from research lab to farmer's land. Coming to linkage with the market, the jobs of PD starts from testing and placing new products into the market or development of new market segment.

Product development is a complex process which is vital in the marketing of agribusiness products. In this process we create breeding aims to ensure a targeted product introduction of new vegetables. All potential new products are then evaluated extensively to ensure that we enhance our product portfolio to appeal to a wide international customer base. (by http://www.tozerseeds.com/us/en/product-development/)
Concept"-

1. SEED TRIALS

Product development staff carry out extensive product trials in locations around the world in order to build up an extensive knowledge and understanding of our products and their capabilities. This enables us to have full confidence in our products when we market them to our customers.

Trials of new products are carried out in different locations, initially at HQ but then with specialist growers in different regions and with independent trial companies. Trials are grown as near as possible to the way growers produce their crops commercially, this promotes a more accurate understanding of production in a commercial field situation.

2. TRIAL RESULTS

At each of these steps the product developer will be assessing the new varieties against existing varieties and liaising with both the breeder and the sales staff. He or she will also be keeping a detailed record of performance.

It is not unusual for varieties to be trialled over a period of years to build up the required data needed to offer the product for sale, many of our product development reports and details of upcoming trials can be found.

3. RETAIL CONCEPTS

Once the product development team and the sales staff have decided to move forward with a certain variety we will involve our partners within the supply chain to discuss the potential of a new variety.

On many occasions a retail concept emerges from these discussions and new varieties are put to the test in processing plants and are tested in terms of packaging and shelf life. It normally takes a few years before a new product finally hits the retail shelf because it needs to be tested extensively to ensure it will succeed in a competitive environment.

After understanding the market needs, new hybrids and existing hybrids are planned for on farm demonstration in farmers field.

Objectives of Product Development:

  1. To develop a new market
  2. Identification of hybrids suitable to different agro-climatic conditions
  3. Demonstration of new and existing products to market staff, distributors, dealers and farmers
  4. Developing confidence about the new product before launching into the market
  5. Acts as direction to future mode of research
Future Thrust:

  1. Exploring the niche markets
  2. Development of testing centers in oversea.
Role:
Identification of the products and promotion of the products and help the marketing team to increase the volume of sales.

Aspects of market development:
  1. Product Promotion:-
  • Promotional materials such as leaflets, poster, banner etc. should be in local language.
2. Supply Chain:
  • Timely placement of seeds to our main supply chain partner (Distributor)
3. Market Segmentation:
  • Each local area in a particular states having different market segmentation. Eg. Certain area needs early maturing hybrid paddy by maximum number of farmer. Thereby company should make available these material on right place at right time. Seeds business are also very short period of market particularly paddy and corn sowing in Wet season. Sale will just start after first rainfall up-to one week and again if rainfall did not happen then again sale will down drastically.
  • Paddy:
  • Duration wise:Very early maturity, early maturity, medium early maturity, medium maturity, late maturity and very late maturity
  • Grain Size: Bold, Medium Bold, Slender, Short Slender

Personal Experience at IITM’s Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI), Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Why I have decided to do project at RTBI?

Being a student of Post Graduate of ICT in Agriculture and Rural Development, I wanted to study on ICT components in agriculture. As per my course instructor at my college also has instructed that fourth semester students have to work on ICT related project in any organization. I was searching via internet for any organization in India who was working on ICT components in Agriculture. Randomly, I found name of RTBI while searching on Google and fortunately RTBI involved with ICT component in agriculture. I wrote a mail to president of RTBI regarding winter internship project. He suggested me to write a mail to Vice President of RTBI. I wrote mail to VP and she accepted my winter project proposal. Another reason is that being a brand name of IIT Madras that is associated with RTBI regularly encouraged me to join as an Intern. Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, a world renowned professor, was also one of my valid reasons to decide to join RTBI.

I understood ICT initiatives so far operational in Indian Agriculture. I got deep insight of knowledge and understanding at RTBI with RTBI officials. I got practical exposure after doing work with RTBI.
Experience from Chennai city
Now I have completed my winter internship project successfully at RTBI. I feel very happy and comfortable. I got lot of experience from both RTBI as an organization as well as Chennai city.

Few of my college friends told me that I cannot survive in Chennai. They said that there will great problem of food, language and certainly road traffic. I ignored him and thought I can survive and wanted to take this is as challenge for me. It had my first experience in Chennai. I had across through Chennai while going to Bangalore.

Language and food point of view, when I came to Chennai Central railway station, I was very surprised that no one can understand Hindi but they can bit understand English language. I was not able to communicate with anybody at Chennai Central railway station. Then I called one of my friends who was studying in IFMR, Chennai, he came and picked me to reach at St. Thomas Mount railway station where another friend stays .Initial few days at Chennai I was felt well because I stayed at my friend’s house and used to eat north India food and also communicating in own language. I got hostel after one week in Kandanchavti, near Perunguri. When I ate south Indian food (Rice, Kurma, Rasam and Sambhar), immediately I was in condition of vomiting. I felt the taste like food was cooked three or four days back. Then I ate by mixing salt with rice. I was not able to talk three old ladies who cooked food and also taking care of hostel. I was communicating to hostel’s old ladies via indication of hand movement or some language translator (from Tamil to English). Upto one month after joining hostel, I was used to eat bread with jam, biscuits, fried gram (Chana), only pickle mixed with rice,  salt mixed with rice, bit watery curd with rice during dinner. During lunch time, whatever hostel’s old lady put in my tiffin box I ate nicely. Some days especially in dinner time, I was not able to eat completely in hostel; I was forcefully requested to old lady for making Maggi (I purchased form market). Many times she refused to make Maggi. Some days I was also gone for searching north Indian food and I had bit similar at Bhartinagar.
My hostel room had four beds and after one month all four bed occupied. I was very happy that whoever came in my room, all was very nice human being and made closed friend with him. We all shared email ID, contact number, networking on Facebook and Orkut. I also learnt some Tamil words like Sapatia, Aayu yu, vonde, Tanni, Kurma, Rasam, readya etc.
Road and transport point of view, I really wondered about road traffic in Chennai. There are so much buses, cars, bike, etc. crowded much at every traffic in every 3-5 minutes particularly during office opening hours (after 7.00 am) and office closing hours (after 5.30 pm). I was very difficult with bus conductor. They did not understand people who are from outside like me. Once a day I had to go Kandanchavti to Tidal Park (fare of Rs. 3). I did not have change rupees. I gave a note of Rs. 10 to bus conductor. He angered and talked a lot on me in Tamil, I was not able to understand anything. I reached at Tidal Park and reminded to him about return of Rs. 7 but again he talked a lot on me. Then I left it and told him OK, you kept it.
Cultural point of view, I understood the life style of people of Chennai. Chennai have maintained his own tradition and culture. I understood the relationship, festivals and function such as marriage that is entirely different from north India by talking and discussing some Tamil roommates and other Tamil guy.
Infrastructure point of view, Chennai city is growing very fast and major hub centre for IT companies and other MNC companies. Other side due to entering of these companies, city became very costlier. First time I have seen that water is going to purchase for daily use purpose. I think all people of Chennai are using mineral water for their daily consumption use.
There are definitely lot of good and some of bad experiences but every experience is countable and helpful. Coming to Chennai, now I can understand that those people who does not know any any language or take example of beef person how these person able to communicate to others. I also understood what the impact of regional language and also geographic distribution of India.
Beach point of view, I enjoyed Marina beach that is very famous in India. I show from where border of india last.

Lastly, Chennai is really a very special and unique city in terms of maintaining his tradition and culture that differentiate from other Indian cities.

Thanks,
Anil Sahu

Its time to celebrate BHU's 1st rank

Greetings!
This is great pleasure to all BHU Alma mater that BHU got number one rank in all university of India. This exclusive survey has been carried out by India Today magazine (May 31 2010). Its really proud of all BHUians. BHU have genuine pedagogue for higher education. I did not find anywhere in this country that  compete with BHU in all respects. BHU inculcates in the mind of each and every alumni of BHU.

The best top 10 University in India:-

NAME                                                             RANKING

BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY.......................1
JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY..................2
UNIVERSITY OF DELHI.........................................3
UNIVERSITY OF CALCUTTA................................4
UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS....................................5
UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI.....................................6
UNIVERSITY OF HYDERABAD.............................7
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE.........................8
JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY.......................................9
OSMANIA UNIVERSITY........................................10

There are very few universities in the country that can boast of having a deep-rooted connect with the country's history, besides being a centre for excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities. The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi belongs precisely to this league. Established in 1916, BHU was founded by social reformer and freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malviya who traveled extensively across the country to gather funds and donations to set up the university. In his endeavours, he was supported by social activist Annie Besant. Once the foundation of the university was laid, studying in BHU became a rage among the students. Such was the euphoria that at the time of third Parliament around 1962, as many as 137 MPs were BHU alumni. Mahatma Gandhi himself visited the university about 13 times and lived with the students and teachers to guide them on matters related to the freedom struggle and to emphasize on the importance of education. It is no surprise then that the university has produced a number of  eminent politicians, scientists, bureaucrats and has churned out numerous success stories. In fact, BHU'S role in setting up the higher education network is often forgotten. BHU played an integral part in setting up the now internationally recognized Indian Institute of Technology. "We had already set up the technology and engineering institutes at a time when there were no such institutes in the country," says Professor B.N. Pandey, head of the media and public relations cell. In 1918, BHU had its full-fledged engineering institute called the Institute of Technology (IT) with departments like glass technology, geophysics, and metallurgy. Many alumni of this college have been responsible for setting up the modern IITS. "You may highlight the IITS and other institutes, but the fact is that it was BHU that played a pivotal role in the creation of the today's IITS,"says an IT professor, adding that almost all BHU students in IT get placed every year while the students of the medical, agriculture and science departments also get lucrative offers. Pandey says that at present BHU registers highest number of research papers and thesises in the country. Science may seem like BHU'S core strength but the humanities form an essential asset to the university. The front-runner here is the Department of Musicology that has played a pioneering role in developing the theoretical aspect of the discipline. It has also given a number of musicians and instrumentalists to the country like eminent violinist N. Rajan. Over the years, BHU has included a number of courses in its syllabi, from astrology and metallurgy to visual and performing arts. Spread across 3,000 acres of sprawling land, the BHU campus has more than 30,000 students and more than 2,000 faculty members. "What attracts the students from India and abroad is the variety of courses. I do not think there would be any other university in the country that offers 140 courses under one umbrella," says Vmod Singh, a BHU alumnus working with the All India Radio. BHU has also come up with innovative ideas such as 'Earn While You Learn', a scheme that has become immensely popular among young people in the campus. The students are given Rs 50 per hour for working in important areas of social work that include working in hospitals. "A number of students who come from the economically poor background get substantial support, thanks to the scheme," says Dr Ashutosh Shukla of the BHU Medical College and Hospital. The university was rated in the 'A' category by the National Assessment Accreditation Council. Many of its other departments too have received acclaim for the quality of education. For instance, the immunology and biological sciences department was ranked third, agricultural and biological sciences was ranked seventh, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology was ranked eighth. A number of foreign students also seek admission in this prestigious university. Its past achievements may be intimidating but expansion and innovation into the future has kept BHU on its feet. The Rajiv Gandhi South Campus of the BHU in Mirzapur, 80 km from Varanasi, offers 45 courses that aim at rural empowerment, and there are plans to expand it further. "We are planning to develop the second campus as a place where students can be guided and work towards rural development," says Pandey. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allocated Rs 27 crore as grant for the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus. VIce-Chancellor D.P. Singh has already raised the issue of expansion in front of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Next in line is the plan to set up Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development with funding from the UGC at the South Campus. 'The Prime Minister's Office has itself declared this university best in the top three," says Pandey. With such elaborate plans, the university is on its way to achieve new milestones. Wow!! Getting summer internship offer from IIT Madras, Mahyco and Mimo Finance

Hi!
I had doubt about my summer internship. My institute is not providing summer internship by its rules and policy. Students are solely responsible for getting summer internship. I sent a lot of email to various companies and organizations and I talked to many of seniors but could not find summer internship. My summer internship is of 8 credits and that is mandatory for all students. I posted cover letter and my cv on various yahoo and google groups but nothing happened any thing.

My institute is only responsible for winter internship and final placement. I tried my best for getting summer internship but no any fruitful result. Some of seniors helped me getting this one but everything went vain.

I got a mail from Prof Parikh(Placement coordinator of my batch) about summer
internship opportunity in Mahyco. One of member of placement committee sent CV of all students who was interested for Mahyco except me. Then placement committee had gone attention on list but he could not find me. Then next day he told me that please send me your biodata details. I sent him biodata. I went home for participating karmkanda of my pujaniya grandmother. Then I got call from my roomate that I got final selection in Mahyco for summer internship. I was very very happy and thought that now I am a lucky person because Mahyco selected two students out of 19 students on the basis of biodata. I confirmed date of joining in Mahyco via sending email to him. This is my first time when I become a lucky person.

Before coming result of Mahyco, I got call from Mimo Finance for confirmation date of joining. But I did not send mail to him. I was waiting for the result of Mahyco.

On 31st March where I found that one letter of E-316(my room number) is shown on hostel website. I went to hostel supervisor and told him about my letter. Then I opened letter and found that I am selected in IIT Madras for summer fellowship programme. I was very surprise and very happy and decided that I will have to join IIT as a summer trainee. I called many friends about decision where to join. All my friends suggested me to join IIT then I set mind that I should go for IIT.

I met with Placement officer regarding the same. But she did not allow me to join IIT. She told me that I will have to join Mahyco other wise I will not be in placement procedure for winter and final placement that means out from placement procedure. I told her that I am loosing brand value of IIT. IIT gave a great opportunity for me. It can not come back in my life. I sent a two page write up regarding my project at IIT. My intended project is selected by IIT. I requested too much but she did not listen to me. I was completely harassed.

Then what can I do now? Some times we loss great things because of certain circumstances. Finally I decided that I have to join Mahyco rather that IIT because this is a matter of career and making good relationship with placement cell.

Thanks,
A. K. Sahu
